The residents of Ozalla community in Enugu state’s Nkanu-west local government area have demanded that the killers of late Engr Dons Udeh, a former APGA candidate for governor in the 2023 election, be identified and prosecuted.

Yesterday, the community presented the charger to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, the Department of State Security, the Police, and all state-operating security organisations.

Udeh was reported missing on April 22. His cell phone was allegedly discovered at a police station fence. On April 26, his decomposing body was discovered at 9th Mile, a suburb of the city.

The police had made a statement promising to launch an investigation into the alleged assassination, but they have not yet produced a report on the brutal killing.

The community participated in a protest walk yesterday under the banner “Ozalla Bleeds, #Justice for Dons!” The walk ended at the Government House, where Governor Ugwuanyi and other government officials met the participants.

The Traditional Ruler of Etiti-Ozalla, HRH Igwe Dons Nwochi, disappeared from the community without a trace on December 24, 2021, and another citizen, Mr. Anayo Nweke, did the same thing in January of this year, according to Mr. C.N. Nwagbara, President General of the Ozalla Development Union.

As a result, the community deemed Udeh’s murder to be one too many and demanded that the state’s government and security agencies clear up the mess.

Inscriptions on the placards carried by the protesting community included “Police and DSS can help stop Terrorism in Ozalla,” “Save Ozalla from Abductors,” “Stop Kidnapping and Killings in Ozalla,” “Ndi Ozalla cry out for Justice,” and numerous others.

“We’re here to ensure that justice is done, and we are here to activate the Governor’s sentiment to go out of his way to do the unusual to ensure that justice is done in this circumstance,” Nwagbara said to Governor Ugwuanyi inside the government building.

In his campaign platform, Okoroma pledged to implement a “channelization scheme to de-flood and de-congest” Owerri.

He pledged to launch and put into place a healthcare system that would provide affordable and readily available free healthcare for expectant mothers, seniors 75 years of age and older, and children under the age of 18.

Okoroma, a former aide to the late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, president of the Senate, added that in order to create a productive workforce for the advancement of Imo State, he would encourage civil servants by promptly paying their salaries and pensions.

Okoroma claims that the problem with Imo state’s leadership recruitment system is that it allows people without character, competence, or capacity to hold positions of power at all levels, depriving the state of the services of highly educated and capable natives.

In addition, he said that if elected governor in the November 11 governorship election, he would end insecurity, unemployment, the diverting of public funds to private accounts, and dishonesty in governance.
