The victory of the President-elect and Vice President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, respectively, as well as the All Progressive Congress (APC) establishing control in 21 out of 36 states in the recent general elections, have firmly established the party as a dominant national political party.
”This is a difficult reality for the opposition parties,” Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said in his office in Abuja on Thursday while receiving the “Arewa Young Lawyers’ Forum (AYLF),” an umbrella body for all young lawyers in Nigeria’s northern region.
Shehu stated that an opposition victory in the general election would not only have ended many APC leaders’ careers, but would also have had negative consequences for the Buhari administration’s various programmes that empowered marginalised groups and addressed much of the nation’s infrastructure deficit.

“The APC’s election victory is a watershed moment for the Buhari administration, its direction, programmes, and projects.”
”Many of the Buhari administration’s commendable programmes would have been sabotaged or not implemented in the hands of the opposition.
“An important and often overlooked aspect of the Tinubu/Shettima victory is that it ensures not only an orderly transition of power from the outgoing administration to the incoming one, but also the safety of the outgoing government’s policies and programmes.”
”We remain grateful to the Almighty and Nigerians for sticking with our Party for this,” he said.
In accepting his appointment as Grand Patron of the Arewa Young Lawyers’ Forum, the presidential spokesman urged members of the organisation to be leaders in promoting legal education and practise in the northern states.
“You need lawyers and journalists as its guardians and protectors to build and secure democracy in our communities.” “Without one, the other will fail,” he cautioned them.
Barr. Olayinka Dauda Jimoh, Chairman of AYLF, requested the Presidency’s assistance in providing strategic training to young wigs in order to enhance their leadership roles in society.

Barr. Audu Umaru, National Welfare Director (Borno State), Barr. Ahmad Khalil, National Treasurer (Yobe State), and Barr Paul Gbande, Director of Publicity (Benue State) were also present at the meeting.
