Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has congratulated Prince Charles on his coronation as King of England, saying he looks forward to working with the British government in the future.

Tinubu said this in a letter to the crowned King on Saturday in Abuja as President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He noted that the splendour of British monarchy and its rich tradition was restored, and the world literally came to a halt as Charles was crowned the new British King, with the title King Charles III.

“By way of this letter, therefore, I convey to you my warmest congratulations on your coronation,” he said, adding that it was heartwarming that Charles’ accession to the throne came after his iconic mother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose death in September 2022 left the entire world in mourning, given her eventful reign.

“Being the first King to be inaugurated in Britain since 1937, I am confident that you will follow in your late mother’s glorious footsteps and even surpass her achievements in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”

“Particularly remarkable about you is your love for the environment, and, more importantly, your lifelong crusade for sustainability and biodiversity,” Tinubu said.

He expressed hope that the crowned King would continue to push for these initiatives while keeping a compassionate eye on the situation and plight of the poor in Africa and around the world.

Tinubu also expressed hope that the excellent bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom would be maintained and strengthened in the interests of both countries during his reign.

“I look forward to future engagements with you and the possibility of meeting in the near future, as both of us have previously indicated in discussions with mutual friends and associates.”

“Once again, I congratulate you on your coronation and pray that God Almighty grants you strength and wisdom and that your reign be prosperous for the benefit of not only the people of the United Kingdom but of the entire world.”

“Please know that you have my undivided attention at all times,” he said.
