Former Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, accepted the Highest Court of the Land’s decision on Tuesday, which upheld Senator Ademola Adeleke’s election as the State’s legitimate governor.
In a statement personally signed and made public by the former governor, he said that while the Supreme Court’s decision went against the wishes of his party’s members and supporters, he accepted it in the interest of peace and development in the state.
Oyetola urged his party’s (APC) members, supporters, and those who voted for him in the State’s governorship election on July 16, 2022, to accept the verdict as God’s will and move on.
“We are confident that we presented a strong case to the Supreme Court, but the Court disagreed and issued its decision.” While the outcome is contrary to our wishes and the wishes of our party members and supporters, we must all accept it as law-abiding citizens.
“I urge all of our members and supporters across the state to accept the Court’s decision and move on.” For us, the current situation is a win-win situation. It’s a loss and a win rolled into one. While we technically lost Osun, we gained Nigeria,” he said.
The former governor also urged party members and supporters not to be disheartened by the court’s decision, and instead to prepare for the challenges that lay ahead for the party.

“I remain committed to Osun’s growth and development.” As a result, I will continue to collaborate with well-meaning Osun citizens, associations, and institutions to help our beloved state develop. Similarly, regardless of party affiliation, I urge all Osun citizens to continue to exhibit the Omoluabi ethos and uphold the dreams of our forefathers for the State.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate Osun Governor, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, on your Supreme Court victory.” While I wish you a prosperous tenure for our people and the State, I urge you to focus on providing good governance.
“Regardless of politics, the time has come to inform you that the interests of the masses must take precedence over any restrictions or discrimination, whether based on political affiliation, creed, or religion.” Whatever personal differences we have must be set aside in order for our great country to progress. Osun people’s security must be guaranteed regardless of their religious or political affiliations. “I wish you peace and progress during your term,” Oyetola concluded.
