In Plateau State, gunmen attacked two villages and killed no less than 20 people.
It was learned that the killings took place on Monday night, around 9 pm.
Kubwat and Fungzai, two villages in the state’s Mangu Local Government Area, were impacted.
John Yakubu, a Fungzai community resident who saw the attacks, confirmed their existence on Tuesday.
Yakubu claimed that the gunmen killed 15 people, including his younger brother’s wife and her children, in the Fungzai community alone, and that a total of 29 corpses had been found.
“Last night, the gunmen arrived in large numbers and began firing,” Yakubu recalled. The terrified villagers began to flee, but they had no idea that other gunmen had set up ambushes and were shooting at them. I’m in the village of Fungzai as we speak. Last night, the attackers killed 15 people in this area (Fungzai), including my younger brother’s wife and children.
They also attacked the nearby village of Kubwat. We’ve found a total of 29 bodies so far, including women and children. We are suffering.
When contacted about the incident, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, did not return his calls, but security sources claimed that operatives had been sent to the affected villages.
