The Abuja-based Court of Appeal has overturned a ruling that prevented the Board of Directors of Seplat Energy from carrying out its official duties.

A Federal High Court in Abuja last week approved an ex-parte order suspending the chairman, managing director, and other board members of Seplat from their positions.

The appeal court suspended the ex parte interim orders issued on May 11, 2023, by Hon. Justice I.E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/626/2023 – Juliet Gbaka & 2 others v. Seplat Energy Plc & 13 others, according to the energy company in a statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Basil Omiyi, on behalf of the members of its board.

It said that on May 12, 2023, the company received the orders.

The court then put the open applications on hold and scheduled a hearing for May 30, 2023.

In the statement, it was stated, “As previously announced, the interim orders were made pursuant to a petition which was the third in a series of duplicative petitions filed by minority shareholders between March and April 2023.”
