Muhammadu Yahaya, the current Governor of Gombe State, has been chosen to lead the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum in its new role as Chairman.
During the meeting of the forum that took place on Tuesday in Abuja, all 19 northern governors voted in unison to select the governor as their representative.
Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong will step down on May 29, and Yahaya will succeed him as the state’s chief executive.
Yahaya made this promise in his acceptance speech, which was made available to the press by the Director-General of Press Affairs at Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli. Yahaya’s colleagues come from a variety of political parties, and they have placed their trust in him.
He gave his fellow northern governors his word that, in accordance with the goals of the Northern Nigeria Governors Forum, he would work hard to maintain the strides that had been made by his immediate predecessors.
“We will work diligently to ensure that we catch up with the rest of the country, possibly with the developed parts of the world so that our people will feel the impact of good governance we all pursue,” he said. “We will work hard to ensure that we catch up with the rest of the country.”
He expressed his happiness at the start of oil drilling activities in the Lake Chad Basin, which brought the total number of drilling sites in the North to three.
“The forum will see to it that the large oil and gas deposits in the North are explored for the benefit of the people,” he added. “The forum will see to the actualisation of the exploration.”
According to him, not only is the Northern region sitting on oil and gas deposits, but it is also sitting on solid mineral deposits that can be exploited for the benefit of everyone.
