Charles Chibuike, a striker for Doma United, expressed his desire to have surpassed Victor Osimhen’s goal total for Napoli in the Nigeria Professional Football League’s recently concluded regular season.
At the beginning of the 2022–23 NPFL season, Chibuike garnered attention for his Osimhen resemblance when he scored for Doma United on his league debut and vowed to continue doing so.
Chibuike contributed significantly to the Savannah Tigers’ remarkable run in the NPFL towards the end of the regular season, scoring four times as they came in just one point behind the top three teams in Group B.
The striker, who was born in Minna, also scored four goals in the Federation Cup before Doma lost to Enugu Rangers in the quarterfinals and three goals during their state FA Cup run.
“I wanted to score more goals and compete for the Golden Boot, but I’ve learned a lot more about playing in the league and I’m working to get better, especially in terms of goalscoring. I aspire to perform in the same manner as Osimhen, who scores spectacular goals from impossible angles. Next time, I’ll pay closer attention,” Chibuike said.
Due to his striking likeness to the forward, Chibuike continued, he is still frequently mistaken for Osimhen, but he still regrets that the Napoli talisman is unaware of him.
Everyone believes that I am Osimhen. Every time I go outside, I get called Osimhen countless times. For instance, when we checked into a hotel in Abuja for our FA Cup game, a man spotted me and immediately began screaming. He stayed with me until he took photos with me, said Chibuike to our reporter.
It’s refreshing in a way, but I also feel bad because I don’t even believe Osimhen is familiar with me.
