Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the former Minister of Interior, has blamed the devil for a misunderstanding between himself and his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, during the latter’s administration.

Aregbesola, who spoke in Yoruba during a welcome rally organized by his supporters to welcome him back to the state at Freedom Park in Osogbo, said the devil had successfully allowed animosity between them to flourish following the Supreme Court victory party in July 2019.

The former Minister credited his political successes to President Bola Tinubu, who identified and supported his political ambitions from Lagos state since 1999.

He did, however, ask for forgiveness from everyone who felt betrayed by the previous four events, stating that he was in the state to seek reconciliation and the development of the state’s progressive tendency.

Politics in this part of the world, he claims, is full of squabbles, but I’m not here for that today. We’ve come to seek forgiveness and reconciliation. My successes as governor were the result of a collaborative effort that included those who have since turned against us.

“In July 2019, following the Supreme Court victory, we gathered in this venue to call on ourselves to be united.” On that day, I announced that I had completed my tenure and had handed over to the person I preferred, but warned that it was up to my successor to be a good person, and that I would be the godfather.

“However, my statement was misconstrued, and the devil took over, resulting in the four-year schism.” I did not request anything from my successor, let alone be denied it, but some people are simply envious of our presence. Despite this, I ask for forgiveness from those who have been offended by some of our actions.

“After this, I will not beg anyone else.” We didn’t offend anyone, and we don’t believe anyone offended us, but it’s possible they believe we did, which is why we’re seeking forgiveness,” he explained.

Meanwhile, following the completion of his appointment, the former governor was welcomed into the state by jubilant residents of Ilesa and Osogbo.

After visiting the palaces of Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, and Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, escorted by his wife Sherifat, the duo was visibly elated by the warm reception given to him by residents of the two major towns.
