Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila dissolved the 9th Assembly of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The valedictory session began with a motion introduced by Majority Leader Alhassan Ado-Doguwa and seconded by Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu.

Gbajabiamila said in his farewell speech, “I will miss all of you and this House, you have enriched my life and I cannot express how much you have impacted the House.”

Members’ joint efforts in nation-building, he said, were to ensure that the dreams of the nation’s founding fathers did not die.

“We have come, we have seen, and while we have yet to conquer, my desire to serve has not waned.” Serving the people of my country has been the greatest honour of my life. “I thank my constituents and thank my colleagues for the opportunity to serve,” he said.

Gbajabiamila stated that the House had changed dramatically in ways he had not seen before, and that the change had occurred at a rapid pace over the last four years.

He noted that the 9th House of Representatives had governed effectively with interventions such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Police Reform Bill, the Electoral Acts Amendment Bill, and the Constitutional Review, among others.

“We have worked to benefit from social and economic transformations; we have left our mark on every aspect of our national life.”

“I urge you to ensure that you are not found wanting by man or God in the final judgement,” he added.

Former speakers, House Leaders such as Gali Na’abba, Patricia Etteh, Mulikat Akande, and some former NASS clerks attended the 9th Assembly session.
