According to reports, Abdulaziz Yari, one of the candidates for Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, may be arrested before tomorrow’s election of Presiding Officers of the 10th National Assembly.

According to sources, there are rumours that he may be apprehended by security agents and deported from Abuja before Tuesday morning.

These reports are emerging just hours before the 10th Assembly’s inauguration when the leadership will be determined.

According to the Daily Sun, Yari’s camp claims that security agents will be pressured to do everything possible to prevent Yari and many of his key supporters from entering the National Assembly on Tuesday.

This platform recalls that Yari, who has refused to step down for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate, Godswill Akpabio, is said to have more than 60% of his colleagues’ support.

Remember that the Federal High Court in Abuja last Thursday extended the order prohibiting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) from detaining Yari.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Justice Donatus Okorowo, had barred the EFCC, ICPC, and DSS from detaining Yari until June 27, 2023, when they must appear to show cause.

Following an oral application by Yari’s counsel, Michael Aondoaka, a request for an adjournment was made by the EFCC’s lawyer, Gloria Ogbason, and her counterpart representing the ICPC, Kemi Odogun, to allow them to file their responses to Yari’s motion.
