Akpabio: Atiku’s campaign slams politicians who advocate religious balancing

Daniel Bwala, the spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, has chastised politicians who support Senator Godswill Akpabio for Senate President and advocate for religious balancing in the polity.

Bwala claimed that politicians advocating for a Christian Senate President were the same ones who chastised him before the 2023 elections for condemning the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim ticket.

On Monday, the PDP chieftain said he had been vindicated because the same politicians who said religious balancing does not matter for the Presidency now believe it does for the Senate Presidency.
“As I listen to politicians today (from the highest to the lowest) vehemently advocating for my good friend Sen Godswill Akpabio’s presidential bid and making the strong case for religious balancing in the polity, I take solace in the fact that these same politicians across both religions vilified me at the time for taking a principled stand in that regard; they said it didn’t matter then, but it matters now,” he wrote.

“I feel vindicated. But whether they are too late in their argument or not will be determined tomorrow.”

Bwala made the remarks just hours after Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that the country’s current political structure demanded the emergence of a southern Christian and a northern Muslim as the best balance to promote inclusivity at the centre.

On Sunday, he spoke with senators campaigning for the election of Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin to lead the 10th Senate.
