Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening the current consular ties between Kano State and the French Republic.
At a Friday meeting at the State Government House with the French Ambassador to Nigeria, the governor made this commitment.
Yusuf praised Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, for his work in establishing and upholding a constructive relationship with the French government. He was represented by his deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Gwarzo was quoted in a statement by the Deputy Governor’s press secretary, Ibrahim Garba Shaibu, as saying that Sen. Kwankwaso had established French-speaking secondary schools in Madobi Town and two other locations in the Republic of Niger.
Emmanuelle Blatmann, the French ambassador to Nigeria, stated earlier in her remarks that the delegation’s visit to Kano was intended to present the state government with a number of development projects in order to create job opportunities and improve the state’s economic situation.
Blatmann also mentioned that the French government has long supported agricultural cooperation in the private sector, placing special emphasis on the encouragement of female apprenticeships and agricultural technical education.
According to Blatmann, over the past 12 years, Kano State has benefited from close to three billion euros in investments made by the French government through the French Agency for Development in various projects that benefit Nigerian citizens.

These initiatives include, among others, the Urban Water Supply Project, the Urban Mobility Project, the Energy Grid Project, the Projects on Higher Education, the Mass Transportation Project, and the Request for Rehabilitation/Revival of the Kano French Culture Centre.
Gwarzo assured the French Ambassador on behalf of the governor that the Kano state government would carefully examine all the proposed projects.
The state government will then invite the French government to a meeting to discuss how to carry out these projects, according to Gwarzo.
