Randy Waldrum, the Super Falcons’ head coach, says his team is totally focused on Friday’s 2023 World Cup opening against Canada.
The nine-time African champions will be hoping for their second victory at the World Cup against the Canadians in addition to maintaining their perfect record against the North Americans overall.
In their four encounters, Canada has won twice (in friendlies), while the Falcons have won once and drawn twice against them.
Waldrum admitted that it had been a while in an interview with PUNCH Sports Extra prior to the game on Friday. The focus has been entirely on Canada.
“I believe the goal of leaving the group is still the same. I do know that the players have given us everything over the last few days, and we will keep doing it through Friday. You will all share in our pride as well as ours.
In their last five games, the Canadians have only achieved one win, one draw, and three losses, compared to the Falcons’ three victories and two losses.

After leading the team to fourth place at the Women’s African Cup of Nations the previous year, this year’s World Cup marks Waldrum’s second significant competition with the Falcons.
Before playing Republic of Ireland on July 31 in their last group match, the Falcons will also play Australia on July 27.
