Sens. Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, the previous National Chairman and Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, met with President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja behind closed doors.

Prior to the National Executive Council, NEC, sessions that were set to take place on Monday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 19, respectively, Adamu and Omisore reportedly resigned from their roles last week.

Following reports that the pair had submitted their letter of resignation, the meeting was adjourned.

In the APC, President Tinubu, the party’s general head, is given a lot of power and sway, and it is predicted that he would have a big effect on how new party leaders develop.

There was no public confirmation of the visit’s purpose, but it is assumed that it must have been related to efforts to resolve problems involving the party’s leadership.

When suspicions of the duo’s resignation first surfaced, the former chairman, Adamu, was quoted as saying he would hold off on commenting until President Tinubu, who was overseas in Nairobi, Kenya, returned to the nation.

Abubakar Kyari, the acting national chairman and the party’s former Deputy National Chairman (North), confirmed that both Adamu and Omisore had resigned to journalists after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, despite the fact that neither of them had publicly announced their alleged resignations.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) wishes to inform you of the resignations of the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore. As a result of this development and in accordance with the APC’s constitution, it is now incumbent upon my humble self, Senator Abubakar Kyari, as Deputy National Chairman, North, to assume the office of the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Festus Fuantar, the APC’s deputy national secretary, will now take on the role of acting national secretary.

And in light of the most recent development regarding the change in leadership, I would like to let everyone in this room know that the proposed National Caucus meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, 2023, as well as the National Executive Committee meetings of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, 2023, have both been postponed. A new date will be announced in the near future, and this postponement won’t be forever, he added.
