Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, has reassured Nigerians that the 10th Senate will carry out its duties as a legislative body, as an oversight body, and at the committee level.

This was Bamidele’s statement on Friday during the “24 Hours Marathon Praise and Worship Service,” a celebration of his 60th birthday held at the opulent Obafemi Awolowo Civic and Convention Centre in Ado Ekiti and organized by his fans.

President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for ministerial positions will be thoroughly vetted by the Senate, according to Bamidele.

According to Bamidele, the Senate will carefully examine each minister to determine whether they are qualified to serve Nigeria diligently and in a way that will benefit the general public from the benefits of democracy.

The senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District said the Senate, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, was eager to make sure that those in key positions under Tinubu’s presidency were those with the ability to deliver while speaking with journalists at the well-attended event.

“Let me reassure Nigerians that the screening won’t just be a bow and a dismissal, with the exception of those who had previously served as National Assembly members and who we knew and valued for their ability to provide Nigerians with high-quality leadership.

“Nigerians anticipated that we would be thorough. They anticipate that we will conduct a careful investigation. The person must be a former member of the parliament who is well known to us, but take a bow and go is not an unparliamentary custom; it has become a practice all over the world. Someone whose skills we believe in.

“We’re going to abide by the constitution to guarantee that we carry out our mandate and please the voters. This will happen at the committee level, at the parliamentary level, and in the oversight capacities.

“We’ll work with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to keep his word to Nigerians. We are steadfastly committed to putting all three branches of the government—particularly the judiciary—on a solid foundation so that it can administer justice impartially and without fear or favor. We’re determined to make sure the appropriate people are hired.

Regarding the elimination of the fuel subsidy, Bamidele stated that the federal government would soon launch social investment programs to ease the suffering of the masses, particularly the country’s poorest of the poor.

“Palliatives will be implemented by the federal government to assist the most vulnerable people. Along with the promised salary increase that will be implemented at the federal and state levels, another category of palliatives will be made available to civil servants.

“The removal is very important because the FG will be able to save lots of money to build infrastructure and satisfy everyone in Nigeria. That was President Tinubu’s intention with regard to the removal. He was aware of what Nigerians were going through and the efforts being made to mitigate the effects of this removal.

Bamidele thanked God for sparing his life so that he could celebrate his 60th birthday, describing the act as an uncommon favor in the context of the struggles he had endured in his political career.

Ven. Zaccheus Ibitoye, the vicar in charge of the All Saints’ Anglican Church in Iyin Ekiti, described Bamidele as a dependable and decent politician who despises politics of resentment and do or die in his brief exhortation titled “out of your faithfulness” at the event.

Despite the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Tinubu’s administration to combat allegedly widespread corruption, the cleric gave the Nigerian people hope that things would turn out well in the end.

Let’s wait and offer our leaders our prayers. One of the presidential candidates who won the election actually kept his promise to end the gasoline subsidy. We should all be prepared for it.

With the federal government, let’s exercise patience. We’ll have a compelling tale to share with our future offspring. This phase and its challenges will pass.
