A 10-year-old girl was detained by the Lagos State Police Command for carrying hard drugs.
The teenager who was apprehended in Lagos’ Agege neighborhood claimed she had been transporting drugs for her aunt Taiwo Abass since June 2023.
Before moving in with her aunt in Oko Oba, she lived with her mother in Ilorin, Kwara State.
It was learned that she typically transports the drugs to the Agege point of sale.
She described how she typically transports the drug from her home to the shop every day, as well as how she eventually got caught.
“When I left my house, the police stopped me on the street and took me to the station, and when I went to take a bath, they noticed that I had drugs on me. I was asked how the drug got into my body, and I responded that the mummy I live with put it there.
She will put it in my body after I get out of bed and take a bath so that I can take it to the store, where she will then collect it and sell it. She claimed that because I am not searchable by the police, she always puts it in my body.
The accused Abass begged for pardon and claimed that the nation’s economic woes were to blame for her actions.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Command’s spokesperson, urged the public to exercise caution and to continue partnering with the force in the fight against drugs and other social vices.
He also stated that the aunt would face legal action and that the girl would be returned to her family once they had established contact.
