Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president in the most recent general elections, has urged Nigerian youths not to be deterred by the nation’s current state.
Obi encouraged young Nigerians to remain steadfast, upbeat, and hopeful for a better country on his official Twitter account on Saturday to commemorate World Youth Day.
Obi wrote on Twitter: “The current political turbulence and economic hardships in our country should not deter our youth, but rather inspire them to be dedicated and resolute in the fight for a new and better Nigeria.
We won’t be able to build the New Nigeria of our aspirations unless we continue to be dedicated to the fight for a better country. On our voyage to a new country, we must be strong and persevere through every adversity.
He said that if politicians focused on young development, many of the issues the nation was facing might be resolved.
We will reduce “the high level of insecurity and the social vices associated with youths, like drug and other substance abuse,” if we create a better economy where the youths are employed in productive activities.
According to statistics, Nigeria tops the list of nations with the highest unemployment rate in the world, with a rate of 33.3%.
“And other research indicates that Nigeria’s unemployment rate will increase even higher to 40.6%, indicating that more than half of the people is not employed while they are in the prime of their lives.
The nation will so continue to stutter under the weight of numerous economic and social problems.
The country will overcome many of its issues by creating an atmosphere that is favorable for business growth and encouraging small enterprises in the country.
