Benue police have taken down a five-person robbery gang that had been terrorising locals along the Adikpo-Ugbema road.

Nnamdi Onyeka, the state’s commissioner of police, verified this yesterday. He claimed his officers, acting on a tip-off, detained the gang’s 30-year-old leader, Fashie Daniel, while conducting more investigation led to the detention of the other members, including a local gunsmith in his 47s.

Onyeka stated his goal was to make sure that “Benue people sleep with their eyes closed and to protect life and property” during his first press conference with journalists since his redeployment to Benue State in July.

In order to rid society of criminal elements, he pleaded with the public to constantly provide the police with any valuable information.

The police chief promised that he would not put up with any criminal activity while in charge.

“I am a field officer, not an office commissioner of police. The offenders in the state should move elsewhere right now, he urged.

The CP also displayed a number of robbery suspects along with their weapons, which included two AK47 automatic rifles, two locally built AK47 rifles, two locally produced pistols, 245 rounds of ammo, 130 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, as well as other charms and amulets.
