Soldiers killed 28 terrorists, detained 114 offenders in two weeks

During operations across the nation from August 7 to August 17, 2023, forces killed no less than 28 terrorists while detaining 114 offenders.

According to the Defence Headquarters, the culprits detained include 92 terrorists, six gunrunners, three kidnappers, six accomplices, and seven accused oil thieves.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, who is in charge of the Defense Media Operations, said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the military’s activities for the period under consideration.

Buba added that 82 kidnapped civilians have been freed.

 

He declared, “The men and women of the military services will keep putting themselves in danger time and time again to defend our wonderful nation.

“In the weeks preceding August 17, 2023, the military neutralized 28 terrorists and detained 92 terrorists, as well as six gunrunners, three kidnappers, six collaborators, and seven oil thieves. Additionally, troops freed 82 captives who had been kidnapped and confiscated N876,451,800.00 from oil thieves.

Buba continued by stating that a total of 108 weapons and 564 rounds of ammunition were found by the troops.

“In total, troops found 564 rounds of ammo and 108 guns. The division is as follows: 22 AK47 rifles, one PKT rifle, six pump action rifles, four Dane rifles, one fabricated rifle, one Galil Ace rifle, one RGP bomb, one RPG tube, 44 hand grenades, 322 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 63 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 12 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, 33 AK47 magazines, one empty case of 7.62mm special ammunition, and three empty magazines,” he added.

He mentioned that among the items seized from criminals across the nation were 104 animals, 14 motorcycles, 16 mobile phones, three Motorolla radios, one Boafeng radio, two motorcycle tires, five touch lights, and two solar panels. He also mentioned that N2,896,400.00 and the items listed above.

In the Niger Delta region, the military also found and demolished 36 dugout pits, 62 wooden boats, 73 storage tanks, one truck, and 75 cooking furnaces.

Four pumps, five outboard motors, and 33 illegal refinery sites are among the additional items. Additionally, the military found 1,166,900 liters of stolen crude oil, 1,491,250 liters of unlawfully refined AGO, 54,750 liters of DPK, and 800 liters of PMS.
