Nyesom Wike, a former governor
The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the FCT Youth Network have expressed their congratulations to the recently-elected Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who served as the immediate past governor of Rivers State.
President Bola Tinubu’s ministers were officially named by the Presidency on Wednesday night.
In a letter of congratulations, Victoria Akai, director general of the ACCI, expressed the chamber’s belief that Wike’s record of fostering economic growth in Rivers State would benefit the FCT and expressed hope that the minister would give the challenges faced by members priority and welcome input from the private sector.
“The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry congratulates Nyesom Wike on being named the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. We think Mr. Wike’s leadership abilities and history of supporting economic development and prosperity in Rivers State will be advantageous for the Federal Capital Territory.
“We are eager to work with him and his team to improve the business climate in Abuja, draw in additional investments, and ease trade and commerce.
“We believe the incoming minister will give top priority to the important issues and problems that our members confront, like infrastructure development, business accessibility, security, and policy coherence. In order to obtain results that are advantageous to all parties, we also implore the minister to interact with the private sector and to consider our comments and recommendations.
In a same vein, Umar Mankeri, the youth leader of the FCT Youth Network, praised the President for choosing Wike to serve as the FCT minister and expressed confidence that “he will perform what he has done as governor of Rivers State.”
Mankeri urged the minister to look into the problems of population increase and youth unemployment in the FCT and expressed confidence in Wike’s skills and experience as a former governor and minister.
“It’s important to highlight that we all think you’ll break records as the minister of the FCT. Given the increase in population, the FCT Youth Network would appreciate it if you could check into our problems there. Moreover, the problem of unemployment, which has contributed to poverty in our nation.
