Adewale Adeniyi, the Nigeria Customs Service’s interim comptroller general, stated that the organisation would work to rebuild positive ties with Cameroon and the southern region of Chad.

This was expressed by Adeniyi, according to a statement he released on Friday, when he welcomed Prof. Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, to Abuja.

In the northeast, he predicted that the service will revive cross-border trade.

Adeniyi also indicated her willingness for the service to enhance commercial activity in northeastern Nigeria.

“Going forward, we will need your support to interact with Borno’s border communities, especially now that the insurgency has been weakened,” he stated. We will strengthen our current positive relationship and take use of it to rebuild positive ties with Cameroon and, of course, the southern portion of Chad.

The step will strengthen the region’s economy and provide jobs for residents of the state, claims the head of Customs.

The CGC appreciated the service’s long-standing partnership with the government of Borno State in border security and humanitarian aid.

Additionally, he declared himself ready to assist terrorism victims in the state.

He gave the governor his word that his government will work with the military to devise fresh strategies to help restore the region’s cross-border trade in its entirety.

Zulum had already expressed his congratulations to Adeniyi on being named the CGC.

“First and foremost, allow me to congratulate you on being named the new Comptroller-General of this crucial body in this nation. The NCS deserves praise for raising the level of living for the displaced communities in Borno and other northeastern regions, Zulum added.

He praised the service for giving food and non-food products to the state’s displaced people, saying that this was easing the suffering of those who had been affected by the Boko Haram conflict.

“I’m back to ask for your help in distributing food and non-food items to the needy in Borno State,” the speaker said.

The governor indicated a desire to work with the agency to enhance cross-border trade in the region’s north and northeast, notably in Borno State.

“With the re-establishment of peace in Borno State, I want to express my willingness to collaborate with the NCS to improve the flow of goods across Nigeria’s borders with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger.”
