Mr. Olugbenga Anthony, the chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, and 26 other OGIRS employees were inducted as Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.
According to Anthony, who recently spoke at the induction ceremony, the choice to join the FRSC was motivated by the need to increase both the state’s revenue creation and life safety.
“The decision to enlist is primarily motivated by the need to protect life. Road tax collection is one of our responsibilities at OGIRS and is essential to the state’s ability to generate money. Instead of focusing just on generating income, we would rather work with other government agencies to prevent traffic fatalities.
“It is a way of going beyond the statutory right of collecting road taxes as a revenue collecting agency, but also as an arm of government that manages and ensures the safety of taxpayers on the road,” the speaker said.
Because only the living can register and renew vehicle details and conduct other tax-related procedures, he said that the death of a single vehicle owner would result in a loss of money.
In addition to thanking Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating an atmosphere that allowed the agency to play its part in the state’s prosperity, he made a commitment that members of the unit would do their utmost to uphold the pledge of allegiance.
Anthony Uga, the FRSC’s Ogun State Sector Commander, stated in his keynote speech: “Having been screened and trained on modalities involved in attending to emergencies on the road to save lives, your induction is a call to serve, complement, and collaborate with FRSC officials.”
