Abdullahi Adamu, a motorcycle rider, claims he became involved in kidnapping after his father was murdered by armed robbers.
Adamu and 30 other suspected criminals, including nine kidnappers, were recently paraded in Akure by the Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun.
According to the report, Adamu stated, “I chose to be a kidnapper because it was destiny.” I no longer have a father. Years ago, armed robbers killed my father.
“Life became difficult for me and my siblings after his death.” Our mother was unable to care for us. Surviving became extremely difficult for my siblings and me. As a result, I decided to enter the kidnapping business.”

Adamu, a resident of Katsina State, stated that this was his first time taking part in such an operation before being apprehended by Amotekun personnel.
Meanwhile, Bello, a farmer, described how six armed men unexpectedly approached him while he was praying at his home in Akunnu-Akoko. They assaulted him with a stick and forced him to accompany them into the forest.
“I was fed a small amount of garri without water for five days before I was rescued by Amotekun Corps,” he explained.
“Some of them were armed and asked me to follow them. They took me into the woods. They later contacted my family and demanded a ransom in order to release me.
“I was later rescued from them by Amotekun Corps members who wanted to collect the ransom brought for their release.”

Speaking about the arrest, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the security outfit, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended while attempting to collect the ransom. Adeleye stated that his team, disguised as family members of the victim, apprehended three of the suspects when they arrived for payment.
“The three arrested led us to the other six suspects,” he added. So we arrested nine of them and will charge them in court soon.”
