Each member of the House of Representatives in the 10th Assembly would get N150 million, for a total of N54 billion, for constituency projects.

The constituency allowances are among the few advantages that parliamentarians have to directly influence their diverse constituencies, according to one lawmaker who begged to remain anonymous.

In Nigeria, “zoneal intervention projects” or “constitutional intervention projects” refers to construction initiatives funded by a variety of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies and located in the districts of state legislators, representatives, or senators.

These initiatives frequently include banners with the name of the legislator declaring that the initiative was implemented.

Legislative wages and benefits have traditionally been the subject of debates since they are sometimes veiled in secrecy.

Each member of the House of Representatives received N100 million during the ninth session, compared to N200 million for each MP in the Red Chamber for constituency projects.

However, despite difficulties and the need to urge the populace to persevere through the difficult times in expectation of the good times and the “Renewed Hope” of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, the legislators’ constituency allocation has increased by N50m.

Our constituency allowance in the House of Representatives is N150 million, the legislator remarked. We only have one chance to support one or more projects for our constituencies.

The real projects are typically beyond our control. As a result, helping our constituency is frequently like a palliative for us. Several of us frequently use our financial resources to carry out all the projects we undertake on behalf of our constituents.

And this year, the House of Representatives is receiving N150 million; I am unsure of the Senate’s allocation.
