In response to the ongoing killings in the state capital of Awka and its surroundings, the Anambra State Police Command has promised a complete crackdown on cults and their sponsors.
The warning was given by the state’s police commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, in a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Friday.
Adeoye warned that no one should call the command when the clampdown starts, calling the cultists “murderers” who are unfit to live among normal people in society.
Conflicts between competing cult groups have frequently occurred in and around Awka.
One just recently occurred a few weeks ago.was the time a rival group member was killed with a hacksaw with his head chopped off in the Eke Awka market.
The commissioner labeled as cowards who ought to hide their faces in shame those who fund cultists to slaughter citizens of the state.
He warned that the Police Command will punish the “heartless” fanatics who enjoy killing people severely.
He issued a warning that anyone calling him to request the release of any cult members detained during the crackdown risks being humiliated.
The Commissioner has commanded a full-scale offensive against cultists and the state’s sponsors.The recent cult-related killings in the state’s capital had disturbed the peace and quiet of the good people of Anambra State, but he assured them that it would soon return.
The statement continued, “He asked the assistance of all law-abiding residents in ridding the society of the scourge of cultism.”
