On Tuesday, the Northern District of Illinois’ United States District Court will hear a new lawsuit Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for president of Nigeria in 2023, filed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s Chicago State University (CSU) diploma.

Former Nigerian vice president Atiku is requesting in a legal case that a US court order Chicago State University to give records, information, or items pertaining to President Tinubu or to allow inspection of the university’s facilities.
Atiku filed the latest lawsuit a few days after the Nigerian Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) denied his request to challenge Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election, according to a report from Political Economist, an online news outlet.

The report stated that according to court documents, the matter was docketed by the court clerk on Friday before the Honourable Jeffrey T. Gilbert and the testimony of CSU would be taken in person on Tuesday. It was added, however, that the court had stated that in the event that the CSU or its representative was unable to appear in person, they could choose to appear via telephone.

As he proceeds to contest the tribunal’s decision at Nigeria’s top court, the former vice president feels that the new lawsuit he filed against Chicago State University over Tinubu’s certificate and information will increase his chances of succeeding in having the ruling of the PEPC overturned.

According to the Notice of Docket Entry, the court preferred that the attorneys who would be testifying at the hearing appear in person.

In addition, the US court stated that it is handling the situation urgently in order to allow time for any potential appeals of the court’s decision and in light of the pressing circumstances that Atiku Abubakar has raised.

Atiku is requesting: A true and correct copy of any Bachelor of Science degree diploma issued by CSU in 1979; a true and correct copy of any diploma issued to Mr. Tinubu in 1979; and true and correct copies of any diplomas issued by CSU (other than those issued to Mr. Tinubu) that contain the same font, seal, signatures, and wording (other than the name of the recipient and the specific degree awarded) as those found in Exhibit C, which purports to be

Other documents the PDP presidential candidate is asking for from the CSU include true and accurate copies of any CSU documents pertaining to Mr. Tinubu that were certified by Jamar C. Orr, Esq., a declaration, and all communications to or from the CSU regarding the certification of such documents by Jamar C. Orr, Esq., between August 1, 2022, and August 1, 2023.

Atiku also requested that a representative of CSU appear at the time, date, and location specified in the supporting documents to testify at a deposition that would be taken as part of this civil lawsuit in the new claim, which was backed up by a number of documents.
