Godswill Akpabio, the president of the senate, has expressed sorrow over the passing of Chief Akintola Williams, the nation’s first native chartered accountant, who passed away on Monday in Lagos at the age of 104.

Akpabio expressed his sorrow over the passing of Williams in a note of condolence sent on Tuesday and signed by his special adviser on media, public affairs, and communications, Eseme Eyiboh.

According to Akpabio, “I took the news of the passing of our first indigenous chartered accountant, Chief Akintola Williams, with the utmost grief because Nigeria needed to drink from his fountain of knowledge and enjoy his fatherly advise and wisdom at this very moment.

No Nigerian has had as significant an impact on the accounting profession as the late Sage, according to the Senate President, whose accomplishments are deeply ingrained in history and will live on forever in the annals of our nation.
Sen. Akpabio claims that “Nigeria has indeed lost an icon, an institution, and the father of accountancy who stood for truth and honesty and proclaimed the principle of accuracy and integrity with passion.”
The Senate President went on to say that Chief Williams was a model citizen, a consummate professional, and a strict enforcer whose footprints would be tough for any Nigerian accountant to match. “He symbolised hard work, resilience, and determination,” he said.
