The government has released N1 billion in gratuity for distribution to state and local government pensioners, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered the Bureau of Local Government Pensions to start doing so right away.
According to the media assistant of the agency, Azeezat Sadiku, Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun, the bureau’s permanent secretary, said this on Tuesday while interacting with reporters in her office at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, in the state capital of Abeokuta.
According to Adeniregun, the administration has prioritized paying gratuities to retirees who made significant contributions during their productive years to bring the state to its present status.
You may remember that on June 12 at the June Cultural Centre in Kuto, Prince Dapo Abiodun raised the quarterly payout of retirees’ gratuities from N600 million to N1 billion. Since he has done so, he has demonstrated the rare leadership trait of keeping his promises.
Adeniregun added that the governor had given final approval for the prompt payment of monthly pensions to begin before the salary of serving workers. He also noted that the payment of monthly pensions had been consistent and the quarterly disbursement of gratuity to pensioners had also been ongoing.
She claimed that the older folks were not excluded from the state government’s ongoing palliative initiatives because they were receiving their N10,000 monthly palliative payment to lessen the consequences of the loss of subsidies.
She continued by saying that the initial payment is due in full after three consecutive months.
In their individual remarks, Mr. Zaacheous Adekoya, Chairman of the Association of Retired Primary School Teachers, Mr. Benedict Ademoye, and Mrs. Caroline Oguntola, President of the Retired Primary School Teachers Association of Nigeria, thanked the governor for increasing the quarterly disbursement of retiree gratuity from N600 million to N1 billion.
They urged the governor to carry on his good deeds in order to improve life for the elderly, noting that the regular delivery of monthly pensions is also deserving of praise.
