Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso has been recommended for the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for this nomination. Dr. Cardoso will serve in this role for a term of five (5) years initially, pending his confirmation.
This directive is in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which gives the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the authority to appoint the Governor and Four (4) Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with the caveat that their appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This directive is in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
In addition, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval to the nomination of four new Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), each of whom would serve for a term of five (5) years initially, pending confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. The nominees for these positions are as follows, in alphabetical order:
(1) The aforementioned Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
(2) The gentleman’s name is Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
(3) The gentleman named Philip Ikeazor
(4) The good doctor Bala M. Bello
The President of Nigeria expects the nominees listed above to successfully implement critical reforms at the Central Bank of Nigeria, which will enhance the confidence of Nigerians and international partners in the restructuring of the Nigerian economy toward sustainable growth and prosperity for all. This agenda is in line with Renewed Hope, which President Bola Tinubu has outlined as one of his priorities for his second term in office.
