The 78th United Nations General Assembly, which will take place from September 18–26, 2023, is slated to feature a speech from President Bola Tinubu.

His Excellency Dennis Francis of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago will serve as the President of this year’s General Assembly.

Heads of State will alternate giving their addresses to the General Assembly.

In his speech before the Assembly, Tinubu promised to “emphasize Nigeria’s efforts towards the attainment of the SDGs, fighting climate change, and guaranteeing international peace and security, among others.

According to a statement released on Monday by Francisa Omayuli, spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs, “the important issue of illicit financial flows and asset return will also be re-echoed, to encourage stronger international cooperation.”

On September 19, the President is scheduled to make his first speech to the country on the floor of the UN building.

This is Tinubu’s first time attending the UNGA since taking the presidency in May.
