EFCC apprehends 46 suspected internet fraudsters in Calabar, Eket

In Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, and Eket, in Akwa Ibom State, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 46 alleged online scammers.

In a statement released in Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, EFCC Head of Media and Publicity Dele Oyewale revealed this.

He clarified that the Calabar suspects were taken into custody on October 13, 2023, while their Eket counterparts were apprehended on Sunday, October 15, 2023, stating that the arrests were done on the basis of intelligence.

He added that the following 22 suspects had been taken into custody in Calabar: Dickson Abang, Joachim Omuyeh, David Boniface Akani, Johnson Umuke, James Michael, Akeke Favour, Enange Benard, Godson Ubi, Eddie Godson, Eyo Jesse Bassey, and Godson Ubi.

The others are: Godspower Eyan, Elena Samuel, Adie Godson, Chisom Stanley, Nonso Solomon, Eyam Daniel Okpa, Aka Richard, Ikora Sunny, Emmanuel Godwin, Dannis Lipeunim, Agwazia Sunny Henry, and Abang Emmanuel.

The remaining suspects, he claimed, were Fonime John Etukudo, Nsisong Udoh, Saviour Daniel, Sampson Sunday, Joshua James Michael, Paul Edet Etiemana, Archibong Okomobong Bassey, Inemesit Akin Bassey, Edidiong Aniete Tom, Ebowusim Chifia Aslem, and Nwanchukwu Ebenezer Chinonso. Eleven more suspects were captured in Eket.

Augustine Obinna, Udeme Unanaowo Unanaowo, Victor Evans, Fortune Udia, Benjamin Amos, Archibong Alfred Archibong, Itauma Uforotobong Richard, Bassey David Nicholas, Chidozie Ikechukwu, Japhet Linus Akwaowo, Prince Augustine, David Daniel, and Obinnaya Jide are the others.

In addition to mentioning the high-end cell phones, six unique cars, and laptops that were found on them, Oyewale also stated that the suspects would face legal charges as soon as the investigations were over.
