Three internally displaced people (IDPs) have reportedly been slain in Benue State by some as-yet-unidentified gunmen.
Newsmen were provided with reports indicating that the people were attacked by a group of alleged armed men when they were fishing in the Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.
Ibaah Terna Jacob, the head of the Agagbe IDP camp in Gwer West LGA, confirmed the tragedy to Daily Trust, saying that the residents had died on Monday.
Iorhemba Cletus, Akaa Clifford, and Igbahemba Abua were the victims, according to him.
According to Jacob, the three had gone fishing in Gwer West’s Gbange/Tongov council district and had not returned by nightfall.
He claimed that as they were being sought after, they were told by an eyewitness that they were being pursued by armed intruders who started shooting at them.
The camp manager further stated that following a thorough search, the three men’s remains were discovered by Tuesday morning and were buried right away.
However, as of the time of publishing, the Nigeria Police Force’s state command had not confirmed the occurrence.
