The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Bola Tinubu’s election and reject his opponents’ challenges prompted him to respond.

The election of President Bola Tinubu in the presidential election held on February 25 was upheld by the Nigerian Supreme Court on Thursday.

After dismissing the challenges submitted by the parties and the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, respectively, the top court upheld Tinubu’s victory.

On September 6, the appellants filed the appeals to contest the Presidential Election Petition Court’s dismissal of their petitions.

The candidates and their parties were contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) designation of Tinubu as the victor of the February presidential election.

Atiku and Obi’s appeals were denied by the Supreme Court due to their lack of merit, upholding the Presidential Election Petition Court’s decision to reject their petitions.

Shortly after winning at the top court, the President responded to the decision by saying, “We don’t need any more distractions to be able to concentrate on building a new economy for the people, an inclusive one for that matter. We have concentrated on pulling Nigerians from the bootstraps of depression and we understand the suffering of the country.”

“And the Supreme Court’s ruling put an end to antics, innuendos, and trial lying in the media and public domain. The court has proven its unwavering dedication to upholding human rights and the rule of law, and it is determined to provide justice to all Nigerians, regardless of their race, religion, or any other prejudice.

Earlier on Thursday, John Okoro, the panel’s presiding justice, declared, “The election results were unaffected by INEC’s failure to transmit results.” In light of this, the appellants lose their dispute.
