Promise Wosu, a former Chief Security Officer (CSO), has been assigned by the Nigeria Police Force to Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to serve as the new commander of the Special Protection Unit, also known as Base 6 in Rivers State.

Wosu was recently fired as the CSO for the current governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, and is now leading the special unit.
Sources cited in the story speculate that the State House of Assembly’s purported efforts to remove Fubara from office on the advice of former Governor Wike may have contributed to his termination.
In order to improve security around Very Important People (VIPs) and diplomats, Wosu founded the Special Protection Unit (SPU), which he currently leads.
Emmanuel Nwakanme and Irikefe London Owen, the former Camp Commandant of Rivers Government House, were also redeployed in a same manner to supervise the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and “Operation Sting.”
According to the sources, the modifications were planned to give the FCT Minister more authority over the security apparatus in Rivers State and maybe make Governor Fubara’s impeachment easier.
The report mentioned a signal dated October 31, 2023, and signed by the Police Force Secretary, AIG Olarewaju Yomi Oladimeji.
“The fired CSO, Promise Wosu, the camp commander of Government House, Irikefe London, and Emmanuel Nwakanma were sent to lead police tactical squads in Rivers State by Attorney Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
This will make it easier to impeach Fubara, his successor. In a communication to SaharaReporters, a top police officer stated, “They are to head CTU, SPU, and Operation Sting in Rivers State.”
