Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 11 Kogi governorship election, has committed not to administer the state based on religion or ethnicity.
On Thursday, during the grand finale of the governorship campaign at the state party secretariat in Lokoja, the state capital, Melaye claimed that if elected, he would lead the state with the fear of God.
In a speech to party supporters, Melaye pledged to industrialize and explore the huge natural riches accessible in the state, as well as to increase locally generated revenue through tourism, which he said would attract investors.

Melaye claimed that he was the most competent, experienced, educated, and exposed of the 18 candidates vying for the governorship of the state.
He went on to say, “I will not be a Muslim governor, I will not be a Christian governor, I will not be an Egbira governor, I will not be an Okun governor, but I will govern with the fear of God.”
Furthermore, Melaye stated that individuals fired by the current administration during the screening process would be recalled within six months, and their arrears would be reimbursed in full.
He went on to say: “Don’t vote for the small parties that have no keyholders, without anything to offer; this is your opportunity to free yourselves from the grip of tyranny.”
