Benson Enikuomehhin, a lawyer, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu kept the state from devolving into disorder by intervening in the dispute between Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo state, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy.
Over the weekend, Tinubu intervened in the month-long dispute between the governor and his deputy, meeting at the State House in Abuja with Aiyedatiwa, allies of Akeredolu, Ondo state and federal lawmakers, representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other interested parties.
In a Monday interview with ARISE NEWS, Enikoumehhin stated that he supported the president’s efforts to mediate the dispute.
“A large number of persons, which I am in a party with, have said his deputy should act in that capacity as envisaged and promoted by the constitution because his inability to perform is hampering his performance in the state,” the speaker stated.
“It is possible to interpret the president’s involvement in this issue as a request to the deputy governor to refrain from changing the current political structure.”

The attorney also underlined how the state would have been in disarray had the governor been removed. Despite admitting that the president had made the right choice. He made the argument that the state ought to have handled the situation as a private and secret matter.
“The 2024 elections are fueling the current leadership crisis in Ondo state,” he stated. Political gladiators’ interests are opposing the deputy governor’s assumption of office.
