Mohammed Bago, the governor of Niger State, has ratified the state’s N613.2 billion budget for 2024.
Bago threatened to avenge his government’s officials if they did not produce and spend state funds.
Hours after the state assembly approved the budget on Wednesday, the governor signed it, stating that it contains many important provisions and promising to implement them as stated.
After signing the appropriations measure, Bago gave a speech in which he praised the legislators’ work and noted how quickly the bill had passed, calling it extraordinary.

Bago reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enhancing the current collaboration with the legislative branch, noting that he has given the order to finish the legislative branch’s quarters at the Three Arm Zone within the next three months so that they will have suitable accommodations.
He promised the people that the Legislature’s oversight tool would not be jeopardised, but he also threatened to remove all MDA heads who declined to appear before the Legislature for inspection and status inquiries.
“We must defend the sanctity of the legislature. In order for the government to function effectively, someone needs to examine and critique its operations. He stated, “In the spirit of accountability, we should leave our books open.”
Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji stated in his speech that the N720 million increase in the budget was made to address certain crucial needs for the implementation of the “New Niger” agenda.
He said that the Planning Commission’s ability to move the Legislature forward with the budget was the reason for the swift passage.
Sarkin-David guaranteed that the 10th Assembly supports his goal and will do everything in its power to see it realised, as well as pledging the legislature’s unwavering support.
According to reports, Bago submitted the “Budget of the Future” estimate for 2024 to the state parliament on December 19, 2023, with the Speaker promising that the lawmakers will see to it that the estimate was passed by December 27, 2023, at the latest.
