Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged locals to always live in peace and harmony in the wake of the rising wave of insecurity in the northern region of Nigeria in order to ensure the swift expansion of the country’s economy.
Shettima made the announcement on Thursday during the opening of the five-kilometer Masaka-Luvu Road in Nasarawa State’s Karu Local Government Area.
He said that if the North’s ongoing security problems are not adequately addressed, chaos may result.
Thus, rather than focusing on the residents’ constant attacks on themselves, he highlighted the necessity for them to band together against poverty and backwardness.
He declared, “In Northern Nigeria, we must learn to accept and tolerate one another.” I don’t see why we ought to be at odds with one another.
It is easy to cause disorder but very difficult to restore peace, so we should reject the temptation that could send us into a state of anarchy. Therefore, rather than engaging in conflict, let’s band together to combat poverty, homelessness, and backwardness in our states.
The Vice President praised Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, for starting infrastructure projects in the state that will improve the quality of life for the people living there, during the opening of the Masala-Luvu Road.
Previously, Sule clarified that because of the road’s close proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, it was built to alleviate the hardships of the locals and provide them with easy access to new socioeconomic prospects.
“The contract was awarded in January 2023 with a 12-month completion period for this road,” he stated.
“Until recently, accessing this region of the state was difficult due to the poor quality of the road. However, I am pleased that the road has been built well today.
“I am pleased that the contractor completed the project in accordance with the specifications, and I anticipate that this road will remain in place for the next fifteen years or more.”
