The Nigerian Senate has called a plenary session for Saturday, December 30, 2023, in order to pass the Appropriation Bill for 2024.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the N27.5 trillion budget plan to the National Assembly’s joint session in November, hoping for quick ratification by the end of the year.

The budget has a revenue target of N18.324 trillion, with a deficit of N9.18 trillion to be funded through internal and external borrowings, as well as privatisation revenues.

The Senate had earlier agreed to reconvene on Friday, December 29, 2023, to expedite budget passage.

Chinedu Francis Akubueze, the clerk of the Senate, announced the rescheduled plenary in a statement, stating it had been moved to Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10 a.m.

This decision is consistent with the House of Representatives’ position, which set the same deadline for enacting the budget.

President Tinubu dubbed the budget the “Budget of Renewed Hope,” highlighting its emphasis on macroeconomic stability, poverty reduction, and expanded access to social security, among other goals.
