Ango Abdullahi: It is absolute nonsense to blame Nigeria’s development on colonialism

Ango Abdullahi, a former spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), stated that it is absurd to attribute Nigeria’s stifled progress on its past of colonialism and imperialism.
In an interview with The Sun, the ageing statesman made these remarks.

He claims that despite having endured decades of imperialism, many nations are doing fairly well.

According to Abdullahi, Nigeria collapsed because its people failed.

He said, “This is complete nonsense since Indians have endured so much injustice due to imperialism for so long. Imperialism has caused long-term suffering for numerous nations. Nigeria is performing poorly whereas Malaysia, South Africa, and other countries—even with apartheid—are doing well. Therefore, I reject the justification that our shortcomings stem from our experiences as colonial and post-colonial people.

This is absurd, and in order to get an honest response, we must ask: Why did you fail? When are we going to admit that we have failed this country and that we have failed because we have failed ourselves? And when are we ready to make our own atonement? People suffer in every part of their lives due to the extreme poverty of the nation, including from a lack of food, shelter, and security, among other things. Even though we claim to have leaders in Nigeria, whatever you try to point out is incorrect. In what location are they?
