Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee rejected the suspension of Fatai Adams, the chapter chairman for Ondo State.

Adams’ suspension for alleged anti-party activities was reportedly announced by the PDP’s State Working Committee earlier on Tuesday.

Adams was suspended “in accordance with Section 58(1b, c, f, h and i) of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017,” according to the statement, which was signed by nine SWC members.

“The State Working Committee has authorised Mr. Fatai Adams’ suspension as state chairman due to his involvement in anti-party activities and actions that could damage the party’s reputation.

It is therefore advised that he appear before the party’s State Disciplinary Committee for additional questioning within the next week.

The ruling party, the APC, “wants to state emphatically that it will deal decisively with any incursion into its ranks,” the SWC stated.

When asked about the accusations, Adams said that they were the product of a witch hunt by certain party members due to the upcoming by-election in the state’s Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency.

“This can’t continue. We will not be duped by their attempt to remove me in order to carry out their nefarious agenda for the Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency by-election, Adams declared.

However, the party’s national working group declared the suspension to be void and have no bearing, according to a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba.

According to Ologunagba, the suspension violates established guidelines and provisions of the PDP’s constitution.

To be clear, no State Working Committee may consider or remove a state chairman without first giving the National Working Committee proper notice, as stipulated in the PDP Constitution.

The PDP is a structured political organisation that strictly upholds the terms of its charter and regulations, and it will not tolerate any individual or group, regardless of size, breaking these.

“The NWC warns anyone engaged in this unlawful act that violates the PDP Constitution to turn around, as the NWC will not hold back when taking appropriate disciplinary or punitive action to protect our party’s stability and the integrity of our rules and Constitution.

“The NWC declares that Mr. Fatai Adams continues to serve as the Chairman of the PDP’s Ondo State Chapter and orders all leaders, important stakeholders, party members, and supporters in Ondo State and the country to ignore the alleged suspension,” Ologunagba said.

In the interest of the PDP and the people as a whole, the party did, however, call on all of its members in the state to stay together and cooperate.
