The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s G5 or Integrity Group intends to back President Bola Tinubu in 2027 should he choose to run for reelection, according to information revealed by Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State’s most recent governor.

In Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Ortom disclosed the information on Sunday during a luncheon given by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

Wike, Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the former governor of Enugu State, Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, and Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia State, are the members of the G5.

In February 25, 2023, the group within the PDP worked against the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and supported Tinubu, a candidate from the South who ended up winning the election.

In 2023, the former governor of Benue backed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, but he was unsuccessful in winning the senate race as well. In the presidential race, Ortom stated on Sunday that the G5 regrets not having backed Tinubu.

Wike had said in November 2023 that he would not run for president in 2027 should President Tinubu choose to run for reelection, but according to Ortom, the group had announced that it would back Tinubu.

“We are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” he declared, citing the declaration made by our leader, Nyesom Wike.

According to Nigerian belief, we are stuck here. We allowed them to work for eight years, even under the previous administration that completely overhauled Nigeria. What therefore prevents President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a seasoned administrator, from leading us for eight years?
