On Monday, the Benue State governorship of Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia was affirmed by the Supreme Court.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Titus Uba, its candidate for the Benue governorship on March 18, 2023, had their appeal refused by the highest court.
According to reports, Hyacinth Alia’s election as Benue state’s governor had been confirmed by the Benue State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Abuja Court of Appeals.
Uba petitioned the Supreme Court for remedy because he was unhappy with the rulings.
Alia of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was proclaimed the victor of the governorship contest in March 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Prof. Faruk Kuta, the INEC Returning Officer, reported that the APC candidate received 473,933 votes, defeating Uba, his closest competitor, who received 223,914 votes.
