APC should penalize members for their anti-party actions during the Kogi guber election

“Even though we won the election, we still know that some members did not have complete party loyalty.”

In response to allegations that its members participated in anti-party activities on November 11 during the Kogi governorship race, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned to impose sanctions.

After receiving the findings from an 11-member committee reviewing the 2023 governorship election in 21 of the state’s local government areas (LGAs), Abdullahi Bello, the chairman of the state APC, made this statement.

“We’ll review the report and suggestions and decide how to handle party members who opposed the party in the state’s governorship race on November 11, 2023.

Even if the party won the election, we still know that some of its members had some doubts about their allegiance.

That is what initially drove us to form the committee in order to curtail such unsettling behaviors.

He declared, “Therefore, those party members who engaged in anti-party activities will undoubtedly face consequences.”

On the other hand, the party’s head promised to reward members who put in a lot of effort to ensure the party won the election.

The party formed the committee to assess its performance at the poll, with Umar Yusuf, Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly, serving as its chairman.

Co-chairman of the committee and state commissioner for solid mineral resources Bashir Mohammed-Abubakar presented the report, stating that the group finished the task in the allotted time.

In the course of their duties, the committee met ten times with Governor Yahaya Bello and his deputy, as Mr. Abubakar, the chairman’s representative, pointed out.

“We were given two weeks to finish our task when this committee was formed, and thank God, we have finished it.

“We are delivering our conclusions and recommendations to our party chairman today.

“We hope that the party will find the report and its recommendations useful in next elections,” he stated.
