Benue PDP Rejects Claiming To Have Worked With Alia To Fix Guma 1 State Constituency Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Benue State Chapter denied on Friday a petition that was sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that the party had conspired with Governor Hyacinth Alia to manipulate today’s Guma 1 State Assembly Constituency by-election.

At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that more than 400 ad hoc employees have been hired for the process.
The accusations are completely untrue and should be rejected in their entirety, according to a statement from PDP Publicity Secretary Bemgba Iortyom. She also added that the accusation is the brainchild of the party’s opponents, who are afraid that their candidate will win the election with overwhelming margins.

The petitioners claimed that in addition to providing the PDP with N100 million, the governor had brought in thugs from all over the state to help rig the results in favor of the PDP candidate.

“With the caliber of campaigning the party and its candidate have undertaken in the six council wards of the Guma 1 State Constituency, PDP recognizes that its opponents in the election have cause to fear their impending defeat.”

The party called on residents of the Guma 1 State Constituency to band together and try to make sure that the by-election is conducted in a free and impartial manner.
Ahead of today’s by-election, non-sensitive materials have been sent to Gbajimba, the Guma local government area headquarters, according to the state’s INEC.

At least 400 ad hoc staff members have received training for the exercise, according to Terkaa Andyar, the Commission’s public relations officer, who made this revelation to our correspondent over the phone.

With reference to the security measures implemented, Mr. Andyar stated, “We held a security meeting here under the umbrella of the agency consultative group on election security. The Commissioner of Police met with all of the state’s security chiefs to finalize issues after they had mapped out the procedures for the election’s security architecture.
