A baby was discovered in a market in the Shomolu neighborhood of Lagos State. It was purportedly sold for N800,000 by a maid.

In a since-deleted tweet, X user #Dannysleek had alerted followers on Saturday to the possibility that the baby had been taken by a maid employed through an agency.

About two in the morning on Saturday, the baby was reported missing from the Shomolu home by the maid, Ruth Okezie, who is from Anambra State.

The maid was reported to have been discovered in Ikorodu, without the baby, after the story went viral on social media. There, she admitted to selling the child for N800,000.

The infant was found abandoned in Alade Market in the Shomolu region of the state, and the police were able to save her, according to a post made by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, on his X handle on Monday morning.

He wrote, “In the early hours of today, the buyer abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu, due to an intense manhunt and pressure from the police.” The police arrived and quickly rescued the baby.

“After her parents were able to positively identify her, the infant was subsequently given to them.

“Attempts are still being made to capture the buyer who is presently evading capture.”

Additionally, #Danysleek verified the report on his X handle.

“Exciting news, Twitter family! The infant has been located. Munachimso is now located!

“She is in excellent health after being reunited with her parents! God is always to be praised! I sincerely appreciate all of the Twitter family’s retweets! Godspeed to all of you!
