Nine disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidates in Edo State have threatened to take legal action if the party’s national leadership does not respond to their grievances regarding the ward congresses held on Sunday.
Nine candidates for the governorship were said to have boycotted the ward congress in order to select delegates who would select the party’s nominee for governor on February 22.
Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Anselm Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Ambassador Martin Uhomoibhi, Hafia Umoru, Omosede Igbinedion, Dr. Earl Onaiwu, and Arthur Esene are the nine candidates who feel aggrieved.
Igbinedion, though, has left the group.
They were instructed to bring their grievances before the party’s appeal panel in Abuja by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Edo State PDP.
In an interview on Sunday, Anslem Ojezua, speaking on behalf of the disgruntled candidates, stated, “If you build on a failed foundation, the result would still be faulty at the end.”
“We will follow the party machinery and if they continue with what they are doing, we will continue to remind them about the danger involved in their actions.
“We currently have an internal dispute resolution mechanism of the party, but we will take whatever action is available to us.” Even though the other party hasn’t responded, we are still making use of it and will contribute in our small way.
“We will take any available option if the party ultimately chose not to listen to us.” We can file a lawsuit to defend our rights after we have tried everything else, he stated.
Ojezua urged party members and supporters to maintain composure, saying they would know who to blame for the party’s bad luck in Edo State when the time came.
