Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, a prominent member of the Labour Party, issued a warning on Friday, stating that the party is in danger of collapsing due to the ongoing accusations of corruption that are causing a stir.
This was in the midst of accusations that Julius Abure, the national chairman of the LP, was corrupt.
At a news conference on Monday, Oluchi Opara, the party’s national treasurer, pressed Abure to explain the purported N3.5 billion that was raised from the sale of nomination forms and other fundraising efforts in the run-up to the general elections of 2023.
However, Opara’s six-month suspension was harshly criticized by the party leadership on Wednesday for turning down an invitation to an investigation meeting and tarnishing the party’s reputation.
This came as Abure pressed the party’s suspended national treasurer to produce proof to support her N3.5 billion fraud accusation against him.
Joseph, an LP candidate for president in the general election of 2023, called the accusations of corruption regrettable.
The claims of embezzlement of monies intended for the presidential campaign are bad news for the party, according to Joseph, who is also the national leader of the Rescue Movement for New Nigeria.
This was said in a statement given to journalists in Kaduna State on Friday by Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, National Director of Rescue Movement for New Nigeria’s Media and Publicity.
To everyone’s dismay, the LP leader voiced concern that the party that Nigerians looked up to had been mired in serious corruption charges.
He went on to say that the LP needed to be saved and cautioned against ignoring the accusations of corruption against Abure.
In addition, he questioned the financial report that was made public to Nigerians, calling it “shameful” and pointing out that donations from that country had been mismanaged.

He declared, “The Labour Party, which Nigerians had hoped would save the nation, is currently mired in serious accusations of financial mismanagement and corruption, as evidenced by Peter Obi’s disclosure of the monies used for his presidential campaign. Therefore, it is now necessary to save the Labour Party.
“Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, is the subject of egregious financial mismanagement, embezzlement, forgery, and other accusations of corruption that should not be ignored.
But that’s a conversation for an other day. However, I will demand that the relevant government agency conduct a thorough inquiry into the grave accusations and guarantee that justice is served.
“There are important concerns that demand for answers, such how reasonable it is to assert that N744.5 million was spent on legal expenses for the election petition tribunal when less than half of that sum was allegedly spent on the entire election process?
“We know of certain attorneys who provided pro bono services to the Labour Party. However, how did the money spent on the petition for the presidential election come to that amount?”
