In response to plans to dissolve four emirates councils, a community group in Bichi has cautioned the Kano State government to avoid causing chaos, uncertainty, and anarchy in the state.
The group warned that dissolving the Bichi, Karaye, Gaya, and Rano Emirates would only lead to chaos and confusion and advised the State House of Assembly not to give in to pressure to do so.
A press release signed by its Coordinating Secretary, Bello Gambo, was issued by the organization known as Inuwar Masarautar Bichi, which translates to “Kano State the Will and Vision of Good People Of Bichi.” The statement stated that “the State House of Assembly and the Government, should discard sentimental insinuations calling for the dissolution of the emirates councils to avoid problems.”
A week prior, an additional group had written to the State Assembly requesting that they expedite the dissolution of the four newly established Emirates that arose from the state’s dethronement drama and restore the dethroned Emir Muhammadu Sanusi ii.
In response, however, the Inuwar Masarautar Bichi stated, “We should avoid experimenting with conflict theory at this material time when there is glaring hardship in the land,” through Coordinating Secretary Bello Gambo and 77 other signatories to the statement.
“Modifying the current Emirates Council framework would not only result in chaos and disarray but also turn us into a laughingstock throughout the nation, causing an unnecessary delay.”
We maintain that genuine peace, progress, and cultural stability in Kano can only be fostered by supporting dialogue, local empowerment, infrastructure development, and civilizational and cultural aspirations; only then can we uphold the principles of democratic coexistence, self-determination, and tranquillity.
“We hope that the State Government and the House of Assembly will uphold the autonomy of the various indigenous communities and assist local residents, elected officials, and particular Emirates Councils in their endeavors to use the current Emirates Councils to bring the Government closer to the People.”
“We want to reaffirm that our people adore their emirs and emirates. We believe that eliminating the current administrative structure will undermine peace and security and possibly cause widespread dissatisfaction.”
“We pray that the Government will not give in to pressure from certain disgruntled elements and will instead use its good intentions to elevate the State instead of turning it into a movement that is retrogressive rather than progressive.”
